Sneaker Ball
Design Direction for R/GA London
For this year's Nike Sneaker Ball, fans were invited to share their best
sneaker images via social media. From hundreds of images the baddest
sneaker heads received a unique and visual treatment of their image as an
invitation to the event. In addition, we created individual team pages
for the 9 international basketball teams that participated and integrated
these in the architecture of nike.com.
My role was the digital design lead of the campaign.

'The Game Before The Game' is Beats' critically acclaimed World Cup campaign.
The finished campaign starred 13 famous international athletes and their
individual pre game rituals. My role was the overall design direction of all
retail, OOH and digital components, as well as creative lead for
all assets and information required for the global rollout.

gives each profession its own identity by separating the color, grid
and logo. The identity shows how seemingly different occupations are connected
and even add up to the actual complete identity.

Room is an art gallery based in the center of Auckland.
The starting point of the corporate design was the shape of
the tiles and industrial windows of the show rooms.
This square shape is picked up in the typeface, visual language and grid.

Malte Gruhl is a German Design Director working for R/GA London as the design lead
for clients like Nike or Beats by Dre. He is responsible for integrated
campaigns with a focus on digital and a love for aesthetic and authentic ideas.

Previously, he worked in New York, Berlin, Auckland and Los Angeles as freelancer
and perm for leading agencies including Firstborn, MetaDesign and Razorfish and for
brands like Audi, Hugo Boss, Google, RedBull, Siemens or Samsung.

His work has been recognized by some of the most prestigious design and digital
awards such as Cannes Cyber Lion, Red Dot Award, Rebrand 100,
The German Design Council, New York Festival, Awwward, FWA and FWA Mobile.

His work has also been featured in several design publications
and since 2014 he sits on the Awwwards judging panel.
